What is an electric bike?

The KTM ebike with the Bosch Generation 2 motor is the leading ebike combination.

 

Why would someone want an electric bike?

For many reasons! Some people use them to commute, as an alternative to a car or public transportation. "Why not use a regular bike?" Well, you might not want to get to work dripping in sweat, and other people travel distances that are unrealistic to travel by bike without assistance. Some people use electric bikes because they live in areas that are particularly hilly, making regular biking a too strenuous. Some people use them for light exercise.

 

How do I charge the battery?

The battery is charged from the mains.

 

How long will the battery last?

The battery comes with a 2 year warranty.

 

How far can I go before the battery runs out?

On a full charge with a general mix of riding terrain you can achieve up to 70 miles.

 

What happens if the battery goes flat when I’m out riding?

If the battery goes flat you just ride it like a normal cycle.

 

How heavy is an electric bike?

The range is between 18.00 and 23 kg, depending on frame size and accessories fitted.

 

How fast will I go?

Without the assist it’s as fast as you can pedal but depending on the bike between 20 and 60mi.

 

Do I have to wear a helmet?

We advise for your safety to wear a helmet at all times.

 

Do I need to pedal an electric bike?

Electric bikes are designed to assist your pedalling.

 

Will the battery recharge while I’m pedalling?

No. The only systems that do can only regenerate 10% of the energy and the cost and added weigh do not add any advantage.

 

What the differences between a good electric bike and a cheaper version?

Simply put you get what you pay for so look for a quality dealer like Metro Scooter that can back up and support your investment and provide full service and warranty.

 

Are eBikes Legal?

YES!

eBikes for sale are governed by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). An Overview of the CPSC's requirements are:

   • Cannot propel a 170lb rider more than 20 mph on level ground without pedaling

   • Must have operable pedals

   • May not exceed 750 watts

   • Must meet other CPSC requirements for bicycles

   • eBike riders must wear an approved bicycle helmet

   • Not legal to use the motor on a sidewalk

   • eBike riders must be eligible for a driver's license (16 years of age, license not suspended or revoked

 

Will the kits fit my bike?

The kits fit 99% of existing standard bikes. We do not guarantee complete compatibility with foldable bikes.

What if the kit doesn't fit my bike?

If you want to be 100% sure the kits will fit your bike, please post a picture of your bike on our facebook page and we'll give you the confirmation.
