Spanish Pronunciation

Goal

Develop a native-like accent, feel successful from the very beginning, progress more quickly . . . there are lots of reasons that good pronunciation is important.

You must speak out loud!

We use this section to quickly develop confidence in your Spanish pronunciation skills. With that confidence, you will progress much more quickly. But remember, for these exercises to be effective you must speak out loud, at normal conversational volume.

Spanish Vowels

The first five lessons cover the vowels. In Spanish, the vowels have only one sound each. That's one of the reasons that Spanish words are spelled exactly how they sound. Here's an interesting fact: It only takes Spanish-speaking children about a year to master spelling. Compare that to English. I'm still working on my English spelling!

Don’t stress out over the “rr”!

You may be familiar with the "trilled r" as represented by the "rr" character. Many English speakers find this sound difficult to reproduce. If you are one of those people—don't worry about it! Eventually, you will probably get it. But even if you don't you can still sound good. You'll just have a bit of an exotic foreign accent.

Quality

Grammar is your friend! We believe in grammar, and we include it in our method. But let's be honest. Studying Spanish grammar will not make you fluent. To reach a conversational level you need to stick with our course.

These days, it is popular in some circles to claim that there is no need to learn grammar. Learning some grammar is easy and will be a big help to you. Grammar is not the goal. For most people, the goal is not to become a grammar expert—the goal is to be able to speak Spanish conversationally.  Spanish grammar exercises with real conversational practice, you will much more quickly reach a level where you can communicate effectively. And for most people, communication is the primary goal.
